FEBRUARY 28, 1945 – MAY 16, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Raymond Anthony All, Jr., age 65, of 1910 Northlake Drive, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010.

Born in Danville, VA, on February 28, 1945, he was the son of the late Raymond Anthony All, Sr., and Lois Watson All.  He served in United States Navy during the Vietnam Era and was aboard the USS Kitty Hawk.  Mr. All retired from Cranston Trucking Company in Greenville.

Survivors include his son, Raymond “Tony” All and wife, Elizabeth B. All of Greer; sisters: Jo All Eskridge and husband, Frank Eskridge of Anderson, and Lois All Vick and husband, Calvin Vick of Greenville; two grandchildren: Jackson Anthony All and Jones Shelton All.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Old Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Dr. Dennis R. Tedder.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

MARCH 23, 1931 – MAY 16, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Nina Latrelle Ashworth Burdette, age 79, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

Born in Anderson, SC, on March 23, 1931, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas Ashworth and Lillie Mae Keys Ashworth.  She was a homemaker and member of Andersonville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children: Ray Burdette of Townville, Joseph L. Porter of Fair Play, and Nina A. King of Anderson; twin sister, Cindy Chambers of Anderson; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren & a great-great grandson.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Burdette; a son, Olin Burdette; a grandson & a great grandchild.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Charles Holland and Reverend Bruce Evans. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

CAROL ANN CONNOR PATTERSON

ANDERSON – Carol Ann Connor Patterson, 77, of Anderson, wife of Wayne E. Patterson, died Friday, May 14, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born September 14, 1932 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Loly Vinton “Pete” and Alma Reynolds Connor. She was a 1950 graduate of Girl’s High School and attended Carolina School of Commerce. Mrs. Patterson worked in the Abney Mills Cost Accounting Dept., later worked at Forrest College, and retired from AnMed Health Nursing Administration Office in 1996. She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Patterson, of the home; daughter, Janelle B. Hembree of Anderson; son, Vinton Hembree and wife, Tammy of Anderson; three beautiful granddaughters, Ashley, Lauren, and Leslie Hembree; adopted daughter, Betty Jane “BJ” Tiller of Anderson; sister, Ceylon Keaton and husband, Joseph of Anderson; and two brothers, Mike Connor and wife, Judy, and Keith Connor and wife, Cheryl, all of Anderson. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Sue Connor Adamson. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, 401 North Main Street, Anderson. The family is at the residence.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL - Matthew Eric Duggan, age 25, of 1496 Boivin Road, Green Cove Springs, FL, died Monday, May 10, 2010 in Jacksonville, FL.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, he was a son of Jim and Fran Hofstadter of Anderson and Curtis Lavon Duggan of Live Oak FL.  Growing up with his brother and sisters in Statesboro, GA, he returned to Jacksonville, FL in 1999 and married Brandace Hall, his sweetheart, of seven years in 2007, having Kylie in January of 2008, she was the joy of his life.  He was self-employed as a landscaper and was a member of Central Baptist Church.  Matt was a loving husband, father, brother and friend.

In addition to his wife, daughter and parents, he is survived by brothers, Marty Duggan and Jimmy Hofstadter; sisters, Megan Duggan and Kristi Hofstadter (Duke); grandparents, Emily Price-Frankford; Walter and Willene Duggan.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

CAMDEN, SC – Virginia Dean Cox, age 81, of 1613 Broad Street, Camden, SC, and formerly of 405 Woodlake Road, Anderson, SC, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at her home.

Born in Detroit, MI, on August 7, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Frank Dean & Minnie Martin Dean.  She was a homemaker and had formerly been employed by Anesco and Owens-Corning Fiberglas Plant. 

Survivors include her two sons: Glenn Lee Cox and wife, Vickie Brown of Columbia, TN, and Daniel Francis Cox and wife, Donna Cox of Camden, SC; sisters: Gwen Ragnone of Portland, OR, and Elaine Moon of Pelzer, SC; brother, Ron Dean of Pelzer, SC; five grandchildren: Glenn Cox, Brandon Cox, Bradley Cox, Tara Galloway, and Chase Galloway; four great grandchildren: Will Cox, Campbell Grace Cox, Emily Cox, and Ella Cox.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dan Cox; a son, Wayne J. Cox; and a brother, Mel V. Dean

MABEL SCOTT HANKS

ANDERSON – Mabel Scott Hanks, 95, a resident of National HealthCare Center, formerly of the Ebenezer Community, widow of Louie Christy Hanks, died Monday, May 10, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born August 24, 1914 in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late William Auld and Ethel Jane Austin Scott. She was retired lunchroom supervisor at Wright Elementary School and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. 

Survivors include a son, Gerald Scott Hanks and wife, Miriam A. Hanks, a daughter, Sylvia Hanks Atkin and husband, Albert Allen Atkin, Sr., all of Anderson; five grandchildren, Jamie Scott Hanks and wife, Trisha, Matthew Preston Hanks and wife, Jodie, John Andrew Hanks and wife, Kayla, Albert Allen Atkin, Jr. and wife, Kelly, and Christi Atkin Getsinger and husband, Jody; and nine great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bertie Austin Scott, Harold Scott, and Thomas Scott (died in W.W.II), and two sisters, Martha S. Washington and Corine S. McKinney. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, conducted by Rev. Ellen Younker and Rev. Ron Culbertson. Burial will be in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, 401 North Main Street, Anderson. RONNIE WHITFIELD

ANDERSON- David Ronald Whitfield, 51, of 601 New Prospect Rd., husband of Terry Bozard Whitfield, died Monday May 10, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born March 27, 1959 in Anderson, he was the son of W. Henry and Erline Donald Whitfield. He worked in the engineering department of AnMed Health and attended NewSpring Church. 

Surviving are his wife, Terry of the home; son, Ty Whitfield; daughters, Lauren Whitfield and Jessie Whitfield all of the home; parents, Henry and Erline Whitfield of Anderson and sister, Deby Reese of Starr.  Ronnie was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Whitfield.

Anderson, SC – Linda King, age 67, of Riverside Living Center, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Born in Fayetteville, WV on May 17, 1942, Linda was a daughter of the late Ralph and Vernie Marshall King.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Gollihugh and her husband John, who lovingly opened up their home to care for Linda until she moved to Riverside Living Center; two brothers, Winfred King and his wife Joyce of Fayetteville, NC and Joel King and his wife Phyllis of Ripley, WV; a sister-in-law, Gloria King of Oak Hill, WV; seven nieces and eight nephews and Mrs. Edney, her caring roommate at Riverside.

In addition to her parents, Linda is predeceased by three brothers, Wilbur H. King, Thomas L. King and Maurice King.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with the Reverend Kevin James officiating.

Anderson, SC – Thelma Genell Sandlin Hanks, age 83, of 521 Old Asbury Road, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greer, SC on August 19, 1926, Mrs. Hanks was a homemaker and a caregiver. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and a member of the Encouragers’ Sunday School class.

Survivors include two sons, Larry A. Cohen and his wife Virginia; D. Lynn Cohen and his wife Virginia; a stepson, R.L. Hanks Jr. and his wife Cindy, all of Anderson; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hanks was predeceased by her husband, R. L. Hanks; her mother, Viola Sandlin Thorne; a brother, Douglas Thorne; and a sister, Ruby Sevy.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 2:30 P.M. in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Tony Smith officiating. A Private Family Innichement will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

ELIZABETH PARKER

November 25, 1952 – May 6, 2010

ANDERSON – Elizabeth was united with Jesus around 1 o’clock A.M. on May 6, 2010. Elizabeth Louise Parker, of 304 Mallard Lane, was born to Elmer Louise McKay and Delma Horace Parker on November 25, 1952 in Charlotte, North Carolina. She attended Cabarrus County Schools and graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina with a BA in Biology. She was employed by Clemson University in the Agriculture Research Lab where she recently retired with 25 years service.

Elizabeth had completed the South Carolina Master Gardner Program and loved working with her flowers in the springtime of the year. Several of her neighbors commented on how pretty and colorful her yard would be. Springtime was her favorite time of the year.

Elizabeth was a Christian and enjoyed talking about and praising her personal Savior, Jesus Christ. WLFJ (with love from Jesus) was the radio station her car radio was tuned to. She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church where she sang in the adult choir and attended Pastor Steve’s Sunday School Class.

Preceded in death by her father and mother, Elizabeth was the last member of her immediate family.

Elizabeth is survived by her devoted companions, Rose and Max, her backyard gardening buddy, Mary Isom, and her adopted family, Gary C. Kidd and his four children, Tammy May of Barboursville, WV, Tracy Pressley, Tanya Carter, and Travis Kidd, all of Anderson, and grandchildren, Kristin Rider, Jennifer Chamblee, Ronnie Pressley, Christopher Carter, Cory May and Chase Pressley. She is also survived by four aunts on her father’s side, two aunts on her mother’s side, and numerous cousins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Steve Silvey. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family will be at the residence of Tracy Pressley, 305 Mallard Lane.

ANDERSON, SC - Lyndon Wayne Hanley, age 57, husband of Deborah Jones Hanley of 512 Visage Drive, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Anderson, SC on February 21, 1953, Mr. Hanley was a son of the late Robert Hanley and Mattie Jane Jones Hanley.  He was a 1971 graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School and retired as State Correctional Officer with the Perry Correctional Institute with seventeen years of service.  He attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple.

Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter, Missi Hanley of Pickens, SC; sons, Sam Heath and his wife, Jessica of Asheville, NC, Scott Hanley and his wife, Annette of Surfside Beach, SC, William “Bubba” Heath and his wife, Laura of Hodges, SC, Everett Hanley and his wife, Csilla of Germany and B. J. Hanley and his wife, Amanda of Anderson; brother, Calvin Hanley of Anderson; mother-in-law, Lois Jones of Greenwood and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Haskell Hanley.

HAROLD L. BROCK

April 29, 1930 – May 6, 2010

ANDERSON, SC - Harold L. Brock, age 80, of 402 Jackson Street, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, SC, Mr. Brock was a son of the late Fletcher Brock and Minnie Osborne Brock.  He was a graduate of Boys’ High School and was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.  He was employed with Glen Raven Mill with over 40 years of service.  He was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Harvey Brock; “Aunt” Sybil Hicks; close friend, Charlie Walpole; nephews, Wilton, Ray, Johnny, Jimbo, Ronnie, Terry, Randy and Gary and nieces Brenda, Debbie, Peggy, Janice and Annette.

He was predeceased by brothers, Grady, Jim and George Brock and sisters, Ida Parks Lollis, Lucille Duncan and Janette Rice; one nephew and three nieces.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 3:00 pm at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Ray Pruitt.  Military Honors will be provided by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard.

RAY FENDLEY

ANDERSON – Maurice Ray Fendley, Sr., 83 of Anderson, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his residence.

Born April 25, 1927 in Salem, he was the son of the late William Wesley and Carrie Littleton Fendley. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. Mr. Fendley was the retired owner of Fendley Barber Shop. He was a 60 year member of Hiram Masonic Lodge #68 and was a Shriner. He was a Charter Member of Forest Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jenny Fendley of the home; daughter, Rosemarie Kraft and her husband, Dennis of Anderson; son, Russell Fendley and his wife, Traci of Anderson; four grandchildren, Owen and Adam Kraft, Nathan and Taylor Fendley; and a sister, Pauline Hopkins of Toccoa, GA.

He was preceded in death by a son, Maurice R. Fendley, Jr; six sisters, Carrie Mae Alexander, Bessie Fendley, Josie Criminger, Myra Stewart, Ann Stewart, and Florence McClain; and five brothers, Jesse, John, Bill, Tom, and Harold Fendley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Stewart Fowler. GLADYS W. IRBY

APRIL 9, 1921 – May 5, 2010

GREENWOOD - Gladys Mae Whitten Smith Teasley Irby, age 89, of 4816 Old Laurens Road, passed away on Wednesday, May 05, 2010, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC on April 9, 1921, Mrs. Irby was a daughter of the late Frank Whitten and Daisy Mae Haynie Whitten Chastain. She worked for many years at Appleton Mill and later moved to Greenwood where she worked at the Clothes Line Clothing Store.  She was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith of Anderson; stepson, Roger Irby of Donalds; stepdaughters, Gladys Irby Daniel of Greenwood and Dolly Irby Crawford of Hodges; niece, Ann Jacobs Whitaker; two step-grandchildren, Patty and Michael Daniel of Greenwood.  She will be missed by her beloved dog, Baby.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husbands; Aldolphus Irby, Claude Teasley and Cortez R. Smith; son, Connie Ray Smith; stepsons, William Curtis Teasley and Milton Charles Teasley; sisters, Thelma W. Jacobs and Nannie Louise Whitten and a nephew, Carl Jacobs.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 2:30 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Susan Smith. 

The family will be at the home of her daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith, 244 Cloverhill Drive, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

RICHARD R. ROBINSON

ANDERSON – Richard Roosevelt Robinson, 73, a resident of Wil-Mary Apts., died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born July 13, 1936 in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late James David and Constance I. Roach Robinson. He was a retired C.P.O. in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jasmine Robinson.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery conducted by Rev. Ray Grant. Military Honors will be conducted by the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, 401 North Main Street, Anderson.

BILL RAMSEY

DECEMBER 19, 1929 – MAY 1, 2010

SALEM, SC – Bill Horace Ramsey, age 80, of 160 Lake Hollow Road, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

Born in Anderson, SC, on December 19, 1929, he was a son of the late Carlos Fuller and Celia Ramsey.  He was a graduate of Anderson Boys’ High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later served in the United States Army. Mr. Ramsey retired as a Supervisor for BellSouth.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” McCarley Ramsey of the home; daughter, April Dawn Holtzclaw of Erlanger, KY; and four stepsons: Lake Julian of Salem, Dean Mauldin of Piedmont, Tim Mauldin of Seneca, and Mark Mauldin of Buckely, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Jean Rhodes Ramsey; his sister, Betty Ramsey Culbertson; and his two brothers: Carlton Ramsey and Jack Ramsey.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Jack Couch. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until 1:45 pm, prior to the service on Wednesday.

M. L. CHEEK, JR.

BELTON – Marion Lloyd Cheek, Jr., 70, of Belton, husband of Brenda Brown Cheek, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born March 1, 1940 in Anderson, he was the son of Pearl Anderson Cheek and the late Marion L. Cheek. He was in the Army Reserve and a graduate Forest College with a Business Degree. He was a retired sales associate in the Automotive Industry and was of the Baptist Faith. 

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Cheek of the home; 3 daughters, Kelley (Mark) Rhodes, LaDonna Cheek Pruitt and Susan (Josh) Cheek-Williams; stepson, Russell (Sunny) Wells all of Anderson; 2 granddaughters, Ansley and Morgan Rhodes; sister, Iris Whetsell of Kingstree, SC and brother, Doug Cheek of Taylors, SC.

A private family graveside service will be held Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 until 3pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at their respective homes.

L. IRENE CHIPPS

MAY 17, 1915 – MAY 1, 2010

ANDERSON, SC – Lenore Irene Chipps, age 94, wife of the late John Herbert Chipps, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

Born in Gassaway, West VA, on May 17, 1915, she was a daughter of the late James Wilson and Maggie Ward Wilson.  She was a homemaker and a member of North Anderson Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children: John Herbert Chipps, Jr. and wife, Beulah Mae of Anderson, Martha J. Ross of Conneaut, OH, Peggy L. Dye of Anderson, and Susan Watson and husband, Patrick of Anderson; brother, Bill Wilson of Vineland, NJ; thirteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Bill Rigsby.  Interment will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home, 316 Bridgeview Drive, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of The Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or to the charity of one’s choice.
