MINNIE GIBSON

NOVEMBER 11, 1922 – OCTOBER 30, 2011

BELTON, SC – Minnie Stone Gibson, age 88, of 4506 Old Williamston Road, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born November 11, 1922, in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late John T. Stone and Eula Strickland Stone. Mrs. Gibson retired from the textiles industry and was a member of Rocky River Worship Center, where she also was a member of the Aaron Bridwell Sunday School Class. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Winfred William Gibson.  Survivors include her children: Patricia Ann Pearson of the home, Winfred Lamar Gibson of Anderson, SC, and Norman Daniel Gibson of Greenwood, SC; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Rocky River Worship Center conducted by the Reverend Sam Autry.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.   The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 1pm until 3pm on Tuesday at the Church prior to the service.

DANNY THOMASON

SEPTEMBER 11, 1953 – OCTOBER 29, 2011

IVA, SC – Daniel Ray Thomason, age 58, of 922 Parker Bowie Road, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born September 11, 1953, in Elberton, GA, he was a son of the late George Henry Thomason and Leila Louise Hall Thomason.  A graduate of Crescent High School, he was recently a retiree from Michelin, Inc., and was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Daniel Thomason of the home; daughters: Ashley Simpson of Iva, and Amy Burdette of Elberton, GA; granddaughter: Emalyn Grace Fisher of Elberton, GA; brothers: Buddy Thomason of Iva, SC, and Jerry Thomason & Ronnie ‘Tuck’ Thomason, both of Anderson, SC; sisters: Pat T. Sherard & Sherry Thomason, both of Anderson, SC, and Malinda T. Brown of Iva, SC. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 4pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Union Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Mike McMillion.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 5:30pm until 7pm on Monday. Mr. Thomason will be placed into the Church at 3pm on Tuesday.

LAWRENCE T. LARSEN JR.

OCTOBER 30, 1927 – OCTOBER 28, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Lawrence Theodore Larsen Jr., age 83, of 111 Lockwood Drive, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011.

Born October 30, 1927, in Waukegan, IL, he was a son of the late Lawrence Theodore Larsen Sr. and Anna Hansen Larsen.  He served in the United States Army Engineers Corp and attended the University of Illinois.  While a longtime resident of Waukegan, he was the owner and operator of a flower shop that is still in the family. After relocating to Anderson, SC, he was employed as a Sales Representative by Park Seed in Greenwood, SC. An outdoorsman, Larry was an avid gardener, golfer, and hunter in earlier years.  A lifelong devout Episcopalian, he was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church where he served as an Usher.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Patricia Bradbury Larsen, of the home; children: Scott Larsen and wife, Deanna, of Daytona Beach, FL, Debra Diehl and husband, Jeff, of Gurnee, IL, Lance Larsen of Starr, SC, and Lars Larsen of Anderson, SC; brother, Raymond Larsen of Waukegan, IL; grandchildren: Steven, Matthew, Willough, Erik, Phillip, Amanda, & Michael; and great grandchildren: Kira & Kyla.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters: Dorothy Rice and Shirley Greene. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church conducted by The Rev’d John B. Hardaway, IV.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Garden.  A reception will follow the burial in the Parlor of Grace Episcopal Church.

NELWYN H. JOHNSON

JULY 27, 1931 – OCTOBER 29, 2011 

BELTON, SC – Nelwyn Harris Johnson, age 80, of 419 Pea Creek Road, passed away at her home on Saturday, October 29, 2011.

Born July 27, 1931, in Selma, AL, she was a daughter of the late Frank Boyce Harris and Grace Bradford Harris. Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Anderson Girl’s High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Anderson Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, where she was also a volunteer. Additionally, she was a member of the Anderson Woman’s Club and served on the board of directors for the Republican Women’s Club of Anderson.   Mrs. Johnson was a longtime member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church, where she formerly was a Sunday school teacher and church secretary. 

In March of 2010, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, Maudell “Dell” Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Irene H. Davis. Survivors include the children: Diane Johnson Brock and husband, Lester L. Brock of Anderson, SC, Stephen D. Johnson and wife, Susan Johnson of Statesville, NC, and Denise J. Wilson and husband, Melvin Wilson of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and two step great-great grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Richard Busha.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family is at the home, 419 Pea Creek Road, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, October 31, 2011.

Joe Crudup

June 3, 1925 – October 28, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Josiah Crudup, Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Dalton, GA, Joe was the son of the late Dr. Josiah Crudup and Boots Caylor Crudup.  A native of Macon, GA, he was a graduate of Lanier High School.  During WWII he proudly served his country in the Pacific as an officer in the United States Navy. After the war he came back to the states where he graduated from Mercer University and pursued a Masters degree at the University of Georgia. Following in the family tradition, Joe was member of Kappa Alpha Order. 

In 1949, Joe met Alice Hochuli and after a brief courtship they were married on October 22, 1949. After working as an area salesman for Texaco he moved to Anderson in 1960 where he founded Crudup Oil Company.  A faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Joe served as a deacon.  He was involved in many organizations throughout his life; as a board member of the Salvation Army Boy’s Club and the Golden K Kiwanis. He was also a director of the First Federal Savings and Loan. Joe was an avid golfer and active member of the Anderson Country Club. He enjoyed his time as a member of the YMCA water aerobics class, the Town House Coffee Club, and the Thursday Club. Joe loved his church, his friends, his children and grandchildren, but he was especially devoted to his wife.

Joe is survived by his loving wife; of sixty-two years, Alice Hochuli Crudup; his son, Josiah Crudup, III and his wife, Elliott, daughters Susan Buckner and her husband, Mike, and Sallie Hickam and her husband, Vince; his grandchildren, Whitney Hickam, Caylor Hickam Harrison and her husband, John David, Andrew Hickam, Meg Buckner, Pearce and Alston Crudup.

In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his brother John Newton Crudup, and a son-in-law Richard Esco Leopard.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, October 30, 2011, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. Following a private family Committal Service, a Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 2:00PM officiated by the Reverend Dr. Dennis R. Tedder and the Reverend Caroline East Berardi.

SHANE DUTTON

May 30, 1973 – October 27, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Jamie Shane Dutton, age 38 of Darby Lane, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was a son of Clarence J. Dutton and Janice Peace Dutton.  He was a former employee of WalMart and attended the Sanctuary of Praise. Shane was a loving and giving person who never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Javelan Dutton; his brother, Jeffrey Dutton and his sister, Jennifer Dutton.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 2:00pm at Sanctuary of Praise, 518 Stone Drive, Anderson, SC, officiated by Pastor Edward Goddard and Pastor Russell Drake.   Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of his parents, 405 McFalls Circle, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Shane will be placed in the church at 1:00 pm on Monday.

MONNIE YEARGIN

January 21, 1926 – October 27, 2011 

MAULDIN, SC - Monnie Margaret Tew Yeargin, age 85, of 315 Maple Drive, wife of the late Joseph Morgan Yeargin, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Greenville Memorial Hospital. 

Born in Autryville, NC on January 21, 1926, Mrs. Yeargin was the daughter of the late Floyd C. Tew and Lessie T. Tew.  She attended Clement School in Autryville, NC and retired from Ingles Supermarket in Mauldin.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mauldin. 

Survivors include her daughters, Sherri L. Yeargin and Wanda Y. Schmitt, both of the home; brother, Harry C. Tew of Somerdale, NJ; one granddaughter and her husband, Tiffany and Brian Stewart and one great-granddaughter, Maddie Jo Merritt, all of Myrtle Beach, SC.

She was predeceased by a brother, Roland Tew. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

ANDERSON, SC – Julia Harden ‘Judy’ Phillips, age 71, of 806 Concord Avenue, wife of Ben Richard Phillips, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

Born July 29, 1940, she was the daughter of Claudia Prevost Harden and the late James Leroy Harden. She was a devoted homemaker and loving mother. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her mother, Claudia Prevost Harden, of Anderson, SC; husband, Ben Richard Phillips, of the home; son, Ben Richard Phillips Jr, of Anderson, SC; daughter-in-law, Hanna Rebecca Phillips-Schacht of Anderson, SC; brother-in-law, Dean Phillips and wife, Joanne; sister-in-law, Margaret Phillips; nephew, Tom Phillips III; niece, Laurie Phillips Sanders; nephew, John David Phillips; first cousin: Jack & Marshall Krakeel, and their children: CJ & Scootie; first cousin, Susie Turner, and her children: Sloan Turner & Chas Turner; aunt, Harriet Haynesworth; first cousin, William “Bill” Haynesworth; cousins: Charles Haynesworth III, Harriet Haynesworth Beal, Charles & Burtha Fisher, Bill & Judy Bright, and Marsha Johnson; uncle, Marshall Johnson; and aunt, Antho Phillips.  Mrs. Phillips was predeceased by her father, James Leroy Harden; son, Bryon Harden Phillips; and grandparents: Charles Cecil & Sue Sloan Crawford Prevost, and Samuel Gladney & Effie Lee Kilpatrick Harden.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10am on Friday, October 28, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Dennis R. Tedder.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  A family burial service will precede all services in Old Silver Brook Cemetery.

JERRY LEO McCALL

September 15, 1949 – October 21, 2011

STARR, SC - Jerry Leo “Buster” McCall, age 62, of 810 Martin Road, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Leo W. McCall and Lillie Posey McCall.  He was an auto mechanic.

Survivors include his sons,  Lonny Dale McCall of Easley, Jerry Dale McCall and his wife, Megan of Starr and Bryan Keith McCall and his wife, Rachel of Greer; daughters, Stephanie Barnes and her husband Tim of Greer and Christy George of Toccoa, GA; sister, Betty Jean Rumaya and her husband, Ed, of Chesterfield, MI; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jerry Dean McCall; daughter, Meagan Louise McCall. 

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 11:00 am at Abbott Cemetery in Liberty, SC officiated by Reverend Roger Nix.

C. J. DOOLEY

August 18, 1927 – October 25, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - C. J. Dooley, age 84 of Anderson, went to be with Jesus on October 25, 2011.

Born in Oconee County, SC in the Crossroads Community, he was raised by his grandparents, Bill and Cindy Dooley.  Mr. Dooley attended Bible Deliverance Church.  

He worked more than 40 years with Williams Plastering Company.  He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family.  He loved to meet people and make new friends.  

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sylvia McDonald Dooley of the home; children, Patsy Strickland and her husband Robert. Charles Dooley and his wife, Cheryl, Michael Dooley and his wife, Debbie Brown, Kathy Dove Burton and her husband, Furman Dove, Janice Stevenson and her husband, Steve;  William Dooley, Jerry Dooley and Dorothy Burkett and her husband Tony.   Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Whitfield and sister, Dorothy Clark of Anderson.   

In addition to his parents, Norman and Minnie Whitfield, he was predeceased by brothers, Bill and George Whitfield.    

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Frank Dooley.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.   

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

ANDERSON, SC – Kathleen Wade Withers, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Hosanna Health & Rehab, Piedmont, SC. 

Born October 10, 1921, in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Oliver Wade and Pearl Wilson Wade. She retired from the textiles industry and was a member of Wellington Pentecostal Holiness Church. 

Survivors include her daughters: Jackie W. Hulme and husband, I.V., of Anderson, SC, and Brenda W. Busby and husband, James, of Anderson, SC; brother, Clyde Robert Wade of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren: Patrick Hulme, Eric Gillespie, Lori H. Moore, and Meredith L. Reed; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur C. Withers; and her sister, Ruby Wade. 

A Graveside Service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 26, at New Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Bobby Smith. The family is at the home of I.V. & Jackie Hulme, 331 Olivarri Drive, Anderson.

ANDERSON, SC – Daniel Keith Kelly, age 53, of 711 Travis Road, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2011.

Born August 22, 1958, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Ruth Ann Blackstone Kelly and the late Larry Hoyt Kelly.  A longtime employee of Owens-Corning Fiberglas, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and scuba diving in the Cooper River.   

Survivors include his wife, Susan McClain Kelly, of the home; children: Tracy Kelly Cruver (Brian Cruver) of Anderson, SC, Tyler Stephen Kelly (Emily Steinberg) of Seneca, SC, and Barrett Steed Kelly (Myrna Figueroa) of Anderson, SC; grandson, Keith George Kelly; mother, Ruth Ann B. Kelly of Greenville; sisters: Becky Pittman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Terry Lynch of Greenville, SC; and Susan’s parents: George & Mary McLain of Anderson, SC.

The Funeral Service will be held at 4pm on Thursday, October 27, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Kirt Mitchell. SALLY B. MOORHEAD

OCTOBER 20, 1964 – OCTOBER 22, 2011

BELTON, SC – Sally Lynne Brook Moorhead, age 47, of 813 Blue Ridge Avenue, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011, in Fair Hope, AL.

Born October 20, 1964, in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Racine Webb Owings and the late William I. Brooks.  A 1982 graduate of Belton Honea Path High School, Sally attended Forrest Junior College as well as Tri-County Technical College. She was a homemaker and a member of Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church. Among Sally’s hobbies, she enjoyed her artistic abilities in addition to cooking and sharing a deep love for animals.

Survivors include her daughter, Ferol Racine Moorhead, of Belton, SC; her mother and stepfather, Racine & Joe T. Owings, of Belton, SC; brothers: Steve Owings of Greenwood, SC, Ben Brooks of Belton, SC, and Bill Brooks of San Diego, CA; sisters: Barbara O. Lanier of Simpsonville, SC, Vicki Brooks of Anderson, SC, Phyliss O. Rollins of Greenwood, SC, Melissa Brooks of Daphne, AL, Gloria O. Ivey of Sugarland, TX, and Laurie B. Helman of Belton, SC; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins that were loved dearly.  She was predeceased by a beloved sister, Jo Beth Owings Ouzts.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Sally’s life will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at the Garden of Memories conducted by the Reverend Jeff Roper.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

DALE CHAPMAN BOLT

JUNE 30, 1941– October 22, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Lila Dale Chapman Bolt, age 70, of Anderson, widow of John C. Bolt, Sr., met her Saviour face-to-face, Jesus Christ, after a period of declining health on Saturday, October 22, 2011 surrounded by her loving children while in her home. 

Born in, Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Lois Culbertson Chapman.  She graduated from Hickory Tavern High School and worked at Michelin before her retirement.  She was member of Parkwood Baptist Church and she truly loved and appreciated the precious kindnesses her church family demonstrated towards her.

Survivors include: her daughter Denise Fredericks and son-in-law, Donnie; son, John C. Bolt, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Jenn; and son, Stephen Bolt.  Nana is also survived by her dear grandchildren, D.J. Fredericks, Becky Fredericks, Gracyn Moore, Breanna Bolt, and Bryson Bolt.  Also surviving are cherished sisters, Martha Tollison and Hilda Madden.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Emerson and her brother, Charles Ray Chapman.

Hospice of the Upstate also provided support and care for her that will never be forgotten by her family and friends.  Much appreciation for special friend, Cissy Hughes.   

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, October 24, 2011, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend Joe Whisnant and Reverend Brent Lollis with burial at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, Ware Shoals, SC.

WILLIAM H. EMBLER

MARCH 29, 1918 – October 21, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – William Henry “Tough” Embler, age 93, resident of 528 Drayton Circle, passed away on October 21, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House.   

Born March 29, 1918, in Townville, SC, he was a son of the late Oscar Talmadge Embler and Lula Cromer Embler. Following Boys’ High, Tough attended Presbyterian College on a football scholarship, where he was noted as an outstanding athlete. Shortly before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, Tough married his beloved wife of now seventy years, Mary Martin.  Following his retirement from a lengthy career with Abney Mills as Personnel Director, Mr. Embler was associated with Ralph Hayes Toyota as a Sales Representative and later, the Anderson County Courthouse. During Tough’s active years, he served from 1953-1965 on the Anderson City Council.   He was presented the distinguished ‘Man of the Year Award’ from Woodmen of the World, and was inducted into the South Carolina High School Football Officials Hall of Fame.  He was a longtime member of Garner Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Currently, he and his wife, Mary, are active members of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Martin Embler; daughter, Diane E. Harbin and husband, Larry, of Travelers Rest, SC; son, William Martin ‘Marty’ Embler of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren: Russell Harbin and wife, Donna, and William Harbin and wife, Elizabeth; and six great grandchildren.  Additionally, he is survived by two sisters: Mildred E. Campbell and Ethel E. Geddings, both of Anderson, SC.  He was predeceased by brothers:  Talmadge, Walter, Jimmy, Ezra, and Morris Embler. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2011, at Pope Drive Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Mack Tester and Dr. Jack Couch. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A family committal will precede services in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or to Pope Drive Baptist Church, 2510 Pope Drive, Anderson, SC 29625.

David Cantrell

October 17, 1954 – October 20, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – David O. “Doc” Cantrell (De Daddy), age 57, husband of Joan Diann McWhorter Cantrell, of 309 Pinecrest Road died Thursday, October 20, 2011, at his residence. 

Born in Anderson, SC, on October 17, 1954, he was a son of Wanda Nicholson Cantrell and the late Okie Jesse Cantrell.  He graduated from Pendleton High School, was a sales representative for Carolina Floral Supply and a member of Asbury Baptist Church.  He was also an avid drummer and loved outdoors. 

Survivors include daughters; Mandy Cantrell Edens and her husband Bo of Townville, Alisha Cantrell Hewlett and her husband Matt of Williamston, and April Martin of Anderson; sons, William “Bill” Allen Martin and his wife Lisa of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and T. J. Martin and his wife Jennifer of Williamston; 10 grandchildren, Erin, Kodie, Hannah, Kaitlyn, Jayden, Nate, Trinity, Gabe, Emma and Josie; sisters, Lo O’Dell of Anderson and Carolyn Williams and her husband, David of Knoxville, TN and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Ernie O’Dell. 

The Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 24, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend DeLennon Stowe and Chaplain (CPT) Bill Martin officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  

The family will be at the residence 309 Pinecrest Road and will receive friends Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home.

KATHY NORRIS

May 27, 1956 – October 21, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Margaret Kathleen Norris, age 55, died Friday, October 21, 2011, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of Jessie Mary Turner Norris and the late Samuel E. Norris and was a graduate of T L Hanna High School, class of 1974.  She was employed at AnMed Health Center for 27 years where she was a supervisor in Central Services.  Kathy was an avid USC Gamecock Fan and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and word puzzles.  Kathy was faithfully devoted to the Blessed Mother and prayed the Rosary daily. 

She is survived by her son, Eddie Lamar Black, Jr. and his wife Mary Kathryn of Rock Hill, SC; brothers, Samuel E. Norris, III and his wife Kitty of Easley, John G. Norris and his wife Penny of Columbia, and Tony Norris of Piedmont; sisters, Annette Cowan and her husband Charles of Yacolt, WA and Rosemary Cameron and her husband Scott of Charlotte, NC; many nieces and nephews whom she adored, and the love of her heart, grandchildren Natalie, Bo and Katie Reece Black.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by sisters, Joan Elizabeth Norris, Mary Francis Fletcher and a brother, Joseph G. Norris.  

The Funeral Service will be Monday, October 24, 2011, at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s of the Angel’s Catholic Church with Father Aubrey McNeil officiating.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 23, 2011, from 5 pm until 7 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home with prayer service to follow in the Chapel.

Virginia Cassada

June 2, 1934 – October 21, 2011 

ANDERSON, SC – Virginia Ruth Cassada, age 77, wife of the late William Berkley Cassada, Jr., died Friday, October 21, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Hewlett Richey and Jana Ruth Stewart Richey and was a graduate of Lebanon High School, class of 1952.  She retired from Cassada’s Inc., and was a member of Orrville Methodist Church.  Mrs. Cassada was also a choir member; a Sunday school teacher in the Children’s Department as long as her health permitted; a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and the 3T’s Ladies Group.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Carol Davis and her husband Roger Dale Davis of Anderson; Sharon Cecile Cassada of Pendleton and William Berkley Cassada III of Anderson; her grandchildren: William Roger Davis, Cynthia Jeffcoat, Carol Ann Tindall, Bobby Dale Davis, Charles Berkley Cassada, Joseph E. Krause, Robert Berkley Krause and William Berkley Cassada IV; sisters; Amy Werts, Linda Riddle, Joyce Ashley and Bobbie Holt and 6 great-grandchildren

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Doris Ellison and a brother, James Richey.

The Funeral Service will be Monday, October 24, 2011, at 2:00 pm in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don Upson officiating.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.  Following the committal service, the family will be returning to The McDougald Family Center to greet friends and family.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends Sunday, October 23, 2011, from 5 pm until 7 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

BARBARA B. DRAKE

January 20, 1931 – October 21, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Barbara “Bobbie” Black Drake, age 80, of 208 Brentwood Circle, wife of the late Harry O. Drake, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Charlotte, NC on January 20, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Jay T. Black and Mary Glenn Black.  She grew up in Miami, FL and graduated from the University of Miami. She worked for Eastern Airlines and later moved to Anderson where she worked for Baxter, Kelley Fost Textile Corporation.  She retired as a teacher and librarian with Anderson School District #5. Mrs. Drake was an avid bridge player, a member of the Waccamaw Bridge Club. She had also lived at Summit Place for several years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn B. Johnson.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. 

She will be greatly missed by her caregivers, Mary and Welborn Rogers and many neighbors and friends.  She was an animal lover and leaves behind her dog, Charlie and several cats.  

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. at  Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

Dolly M. Evatt

October 31, 1928 – October 19, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Dolly M. Evatt, age 82, resident of Ellenburg Nursing Home, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in Anderson. 

Born in Iva, SC, she was a daughter of the late Lewis D. Wilson and Sue Wilson.  She was retired from Sears and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Zion United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Evatt was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and was known for cooking delicious breakfasts. 

Survivors include a daughter, Pam Mays; sons, Harry Mays, Jr. and Dennis Mays, Sr.;                          grandchildren: Paul Siders, Cory Mays, Heather Humphries, Joshua Mays, Alyssa Rogers, Lydia Coker, Sara Scotland and Eden Mays and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Harry C. Mays; her second husband, Waymon Evatt, a grandson, Dennis Mays, Jr.; sister, Joy Hodge and brother, Hugh Wilson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm at Zion United Methodist Church. The Funeral Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Reverend Dr. Shawn Armstrong officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

The family will be at the home of a grandson, Joshua Mays, 202 Rio Way, Anderson, SC.
