DARRELL BROWN
ANDERSON- Darrell James Brown, Sr., 82, of Anderson, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009.
Born March 23, 1927 in Greenville, he was the son of the late Albert and Bessie Brown. He was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a butcher with A&P Grocery for over 48 years and later with Quality Foods for 12 years. Mr. Brown was a member of Orrville Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and member of the Baraca Sunday School class. He was a loving grandfather who enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Cromer Brown of the home; daughter, Brenda Cheek and her husband, M.L. Cheek of Belton; sons, Jimmy Brown and his wife, Karen of Belton and Barney Brown and his wife, Tina of Anderson; grandchildren: Russell Wells and his wife, Sunny, Lander and Tyler Brown and Elizabeth and D.J. Brown; and 2 brothers, Jerry Brown of Greenville and Ted Brown of Greer. He was preceded in death by brothers: Leon, Delbert, Thurell and Cecil Brown and sister, Marion Merrill.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, with Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. The family is at the residence.
