WILLIAM TODD PLAXCO
June 16, 1925 – March 3, 2010
ANDERSON, SC - William Todd “Jack” Plaxco, age 84, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
Born in Due West, SC, he was the second son of Dr. James McElwee Plaxco and Adele Todd Plaxco. He volunteered to serve in the United States Navy at age 17, attended Erskine College and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Jack began working for IBM on his 25th birthday and retired in management. Over the years, he was active in the A.R.P. Presbyterian and Methodist Churches. He was a member of the Elks and Golden Kiwanis Clubs and served with United Way and Meals on Wheels. Mr. Plaxco loved the outdoors. Among his many activities, he enjoyed fishing and flying planes, boating, snow skiing, jogging, tennis and golfing. Gardening was a passion for Jack. He was a tester for Jackson & Perkins roses and once held the state record for the largest tomato, grown at over three pounds. He was the instrumental driving force behind Polecat Farms of Anderson.
Jack was devoted to his church and often volunteered to help the less fortunate. He spent several weeks in Awendaw after Hurricane Hugo. He was devoted to his family and never met anyone he didn’t consider a friend. He will be missed by all
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Myers Plaxco; children, John Todd and wife, Barbara, William Myers and partner, Miss Kelly Yane, and ElizaBeth; grandchildren; Christopher, Adam and Meredith.
Predeceasing Mr. Plaxco were his parents and first wife, Lois Marie Long and three brothers; Dr. James McElwee Plaxco, Jr., Dr. Charles Cowen Plaxco and John Todd Plaxco.
The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at St. John’s United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Dr. William R. Childs and the Reverend Fran Elrod.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
A Committal Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 8, 2010 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, located in Columbia, SC.
