Ray C. Grant
Ray Cullen Grant, age 83, of 535 Fair Play Road, Townville, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Rainey Hospice House surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 8, 1930, in Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late Wesley Allen Grant and the late Thelma Minnie Sheriff Grant. For 62 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Jessie Mae Kay Grant of the residence.
Following graduation from Townville High School, he proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict era. For 34 years, Mr. Grant was employed by the J. P. Stevens Company where he retired as a Supervisor. He was a member of the Townville Baptist Church and the Townville Masonic Lodge. He was also a Shriner. Among his many hobbies, he was a Boy Scout Leader as well as men’s and little league baseball coach. Ray was an avid vegetable gardener who also enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Jessie Mae, he is survived by 2 sons, Danny Ray Grant (Tricia) of Sandy Springs and Brian Keith Grant (Laurie Jean Poore) of Townville; 2 daughters, Gail Grant Phillips (Mike) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Kathy Parker (Tommy) of Anderson; 2 brothers, James Grant (Judy) and Tommy Grant (Ann), both of Townville; 7 grandchildren, Corey Grant, Jessica Mayfield, Ashley Schultes, Brandon Phillips, Caitlin Phillips, Nathan Parker, and Kimberly Wright; also surviving are 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by brothers Talmadge, J. W., and Wesley, Jr. Grant; sisters, Cara Simmons, Bernie Glenn, Carrie Lee Glenn, Mary Sue Panzner, Peggy Roach, and Patsy Grant.
A funeral service to honor the life of Ray C. Grant will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Townville Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim Crittendon and Mr. Wayne Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Townville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Kathy and Tommy Parker, 641 LaFrance Road, Anderson, and will receive friends at the Townville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
