News from People You Trust
Welcome to The Anderson Observer, a place we hope you will find news you can use from people you trust. When we officially launch our online newspaper on Aug. 19, you will find news, opinion, home/garden, health, sports and other sections featuring the best in local news and information.
Some of the names you might know. Contributing writers will initially include writers with decades of experience in local news. I am the editor, Greg Wilson. My family has been a part of Anderson County for many generations, so my sense of this place is based on deep roots and a deep affection for my home. I am former editorial-page editor of the Anderson Independent and a freelance writer whose work has appeared in publications ranging from the New York Times to Christianity Today. I will be covering much of the news and providing editorials and other copy.
Cobb Oxford, one of the areas most experienced sportswriters and informed sports voices in the region, will write a weekly column on what is happening in sports. Katherine Smith, executive director of the Cancer Association of Anderson, a writer of many years and another former editorial page editor of the Anderson Independent-Mail, is writing a story in our premier issue on the Cancer Association of Anderson. Anderson Mayor Terrance Roberts will offer a monthly column on the city of Anderson. The mayors of the county's other townships are also being invited to participate in keeping readers informed on what is going on across the county. Watch these pages in the days ahead for announcements of other local leaders and writers who will be contributing to The Anderson Observer.
We will also be offering substantial coverage of the arts of the county and the area. Featured artists and artwork, original artwork - from photography and sculpture to poetry and fiction - will be a staple of our Arts pages.
