RUTH M. GILMER
DECEMBER 8, 1918 – OCTOBER 21, 2009
ANDERSON, SC – Ruth Morton Gilmer, age 90, of 107 Perpetual Square passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Born on December 8, 1918, in Boaz, Alabama and formerly a resident of Oberlin, Ohio, Mrs. Gilmer was a daughter of the late Charles Morton and Cora Woodham Morton. She was a homemaker, a Methodist, an accomplished pianist, and sang in church choirs. She loved music, flowers, gardening, cooking, golf, bird-watching, watching ball games, and spending time with family.
Survivors include her daughters, Wendy Musson of Anderson, SC, Deborah Gilmer and partner Susan Copenhafer of Eugene, OR, Linda Schmitz and husband Hugo of St. Louis, MO, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Nellie Jo Creel and Frances M.
Fleming, and her brother Ernest L. Morton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nelson W. Gilmer; a daughter, Sandra Nell Gilmer; and her brothers Clyde B. Morton and Joseph W. Morton.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, December 5th in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Jack Couch. The family will receive friends 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, prior to the funeral service.
