SAM WATERS

JULY 2, 1930 – DECEMBER 17, 2009

ANDERSON, SC – Samuel Preston Waters, Jr., age 79, of 210 Gilmer Road, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Calhoun Falls, SC, on July 2, 1930, he was a son of the late Samuel Preston Waters, Sr., and Sally Sutherland Waters.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Waters retired from Daniel Construction and had served numerous capacities as a Mason, having been awarded the title of Master Mason twice. Mr. Waters was a faithful member of Forest Hill Baptist Church, where he was a former church deacon.  He was a caring husband, devoted father, and terrific grandfather – who will be sorely missed by his loving family.

Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Sue Manning Waters of the home; children: Dwaine Waters and wife, Janice of Anderson, Pamela Lynn W. Martin and husband, Terry of Starr, and James “Jimmy” P. Waters and wife, Karen of Anderson; brothers: J.D. Waters and wife, Jeanelle of Elberton, GA, Reverend DeWitt Waters and wife, Mae of Stanley, NC, and Billy Waters and wife, Betty of Carlton, GA.  Also surviving are six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 19, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Reverend Tom Owen, Mr. Dendy Clardy, and the Reverend Russell Drake.   Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Jimmy & Karen Waters, 114 Princess Avenue, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8 pm on Friday, December 18, 2009. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Forest Hill Baptist Church, 908 Plantation Road, Anderson, SC 29621. A message of condolence may be sent by visiting www.mcdougaldfuneralhome.com. The McDougald Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
