FREDDIE BLACKWOOD, JR

July 17, 1947 – September 14, 2009
 
SALUDA, SC - Freddie Mason Blackwood, Jr., age 62, formerly of 320 Dogwood Street, Anderson, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at Saluda Nursing Center.
 
Born in Spartanburg, SC on July 17, 1947, he was the son of Doris McBee Blackwood of Anderson and the late Freddie Mason Blackwood Sr..  He was a United States Marine Corps veteran having served in the Vietnam War.  Mr. Blackwood was a member of North Anderson Baptist Church.  Freddie was involved with Promise Keepers and volunteered at the Haven of Rest Ministries.
 
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Meghan Brynna Blackwood of Athens, GA; granddaughter, Alexis Mason Jane Cottle; sister, Jan Wilson and her husband, Mike of Athens, GA; niece, Natalie Brooke Amey; nephew Patrick Michael Wilson and great-nephew, Shawn S. Williams.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Bill Rigsby.  Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Wilson, Mike Wilson, Chuck Shook, Mike Thrasher, and Shawn Williams.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 3:15 pm. The family will be at the home of his mother, 320 Dogwood Street, Anderson.
